Animated Gif Glitch
So, I have a glitch with an animated gif. Opera, safari, and presumably chrome have issues with this animation. Hover over the tabs at the very top. This is an up-coming free template: http://jason-cole.com/files/new/

RE: Animated Gif Glitch
Why not just use some jquery to make that effect happen rather than an animated gif?

RE: Animated Gif Glitch
yeah, animated gifs aren't worth it anymore -- to hard to change.

RE: Animated Gif Glitch
I want to submit my templates in many places. Some don't allow Javascript. The issue seem to be that the browsers only keep track of a single 'state' for the image, so that once it plays through once, it will not play through again in another instance of the background image. I have come up with a dirty hack to fix the bad behavior. It involves adding one very large delayed frame onto the end of the animation, then telling it to loop. I'd rather not use the hack, because it will bring firefox and IE 6+ (which work perfectly) down to the level of opera and safari. I was wondering if anyone had run across this before. I've used animated gifs as backgrounds before without problems, but this time it seems to fail.

Edit: As an alternative, I could make the buttons pulsate, instead of just lighting up.

RE: Animated Gif Glitch
Maybe you could contact luka. the maker of this template: http://www.opendesigns.org/preview/?template=580. It seems she knows how to do it.

Luka's design has the same glitch, check out the guest and client buttons. I think that it has something to do with repeating an image.

RE: Animated Gif Glitch
I'm actually re-reading your post and you're saying that this problem only happens in Opera and Safari. Have you tried Chrome also? I'm curious to know since that browser is also built off of Safari's webKit engine.

RE: Animated Gif Glitch
From looking around the internet, it seems that this is a known issue with webkit and that about the only way for you to work through it would to use some javascript of some sort.

RE: Animated Gif Glitch
If your GIF animation image can't load on any website then you can change it by any other animation extension. It is easy for you also. So basically change the file extension so you can even edit it also if in future it is needed.
